a prostaglandin analogue for the treatment of glaucoma
WHAT IS GLAUCOMA?
Glaucoma is a group of eye conditions that damage the optic nerve — often associated with elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) — leading to progressive, irreversible vision loss and blindness if untreated.
Primary Open-Angle
Glaucoma (POAG)
Most common type (85–90% of cases). Slow, painless drainage blockage. No symptoms until late stages.
TREATMENT OVERVIEW
Goal: Reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) to a target level to halt optic nerve damage. There is no cure — treatment prevents progression. Vision loss from glaucoma is permanent and irreversible.
1st Line
Medical Therapy (Eye Drops)
Prostaglandin analogues, beta-blockers, alpha-agonists, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors. Reduces IOP by decreasing fluid production or increasing drainage.
